There isn't a set amount of uses, like there is with a tool, it works much more similarly to the unbreaking enchantment, where you have a chance to damage the anvil a little bit when you use it. I'm on SSP trying to attach Efficiency III to a diamond pick axe with an anvil. Since i don't want to host the image, I'll just draw it out in words: Diamond pick axe ---> Efficiency III book -X-> [empty space] note that the pick has absolutely NO enchantments on it already, and I have also tried this with a diamond sword with Knock back II.
/summon is for summoning entities silly. Anvil is not an entity it is a block. To get an anvil, you want /setblock ~ ~ ~ minecraft:anvil 0 If you really, really want to use the summon command, just summon a FallingSand with id anvil. No idea why you would want that, because anvils are affected by gravity anyway. Cheers, ~Fugu
The number of anvil operations you used to create the pick in question will affect the Prior Work Penalty [PWP] associated with the pick and thus the maximum number of times it can be repaired. This limit to the ability to repair items is also a goad to doing 75% repairs, rather than keeping the item 'topped-up'....

The order in which you place items in the anvil has no effect on the repair cost, which is always 2 levels for a new item, plus the prior work penalty and enchantment costs, if applicable (in other words, you normally want to put the enchanted item in the first slot and unenchanted sacrifice item in the second slot, which will not apply any charge for the enchantments since it is based on what ...
